Show Notes

To help keep pupils engaged with food education during lockdown, FDF Scotland created a Lockdown Lunch Challenge. Young people across Scotland were asked to design an innovative street food dish that they and their families would love. The dish had to contain at least one item of local Scottish produce, use products they had in their cupboards and fridges, and contribute to at least one of their five a day. There were over 200 entries to the challenge and the standard of entries was very high.

As well as having fun cooking up a storm with their friends and families, the young people, their parents and their educators learnt more about where food ingredients come from, the importance of a healthy balanced diet, how food is produced, and who is involved in making food available in their local shops and supermarkets.

In this podcast FDF Scotland's Skills Manager Moira Stalker chairs a discussion with teachers who encouraged their pupils to get involved in the challenge and a parent of one of the winners.
